چکیده

In this paper, we restudy the spectral lag features of short bright gamma-ray bursts (T90 < 2.6s) with a BATSE time-tagged event (TTE) sample including 65 single pulse bursts. The cross-correlation technique is adopted to measure the lags between two different energy channels. Meanwhile, we also make an investigation of the characteristics of the ratios between the spectral lag and the full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the pulses, called relative spectral lags (RSLs). We conclude that spectral lags of short gamma ray bursts (SGRBs) are normally distributed and concentrated around the value of 0.014, with 40 percent of them having negative lags. With K-S tests, we find the lag distribution is identical with a normal one caused by white noises, which indicates the lags of the vast majority of SGRBs are so small that they are negligible or nonmeasurable, as Norris & Bonnell have suggested.

A Simple Two-Parameter Characterization of Gamma-Ray Burst Time Histories

A simple scheme delineates Long GRBs with similar time histories using the Internal Luminosity Function power-law index and the spectral lag. Several generalizations are made about time history morphologies: 1) GRBs with long spectral lags contain fewer pulses that are broader than those found in bursts with short spectral lags, 2) short-lag bursts with small ILF power-law indices have many nar...

Connection between Energy-dependent Lags and Peak Luminosity in Gamma-ray Bursts

We suggest a connection between the pulse paradigm at gamma-ray energies and the recently demonstrated luminosity distribution in gamma-ray bursts: The spectral evolution timescale of pulse structures is anticorrelated with peak luminosity, and with quantities which might be expected to reflect the bulk relativistic Lorentz factor, such as spectral hardness ratio. We establish this relationship...

Connection between Energy-dependent Lags and Lorentz Factor in Gamma-ray Bursts

We suggest a connection between the pulse paradigm at gamma-ray energies and the recently demonstrated luminosity distribution in gamma-ray bursts: Spectral evolution of pulse structures is anticorrelated with quantities which may be expected to reflect the bulk relativistic Lorentz factor, Γ, and therefore intrinsic luminosity. We establish this relationship in two important burst samples usin...

Spectral Lags and the Lag-Luminosity Relation: An Investigation with Swift BAT Gamma-ray Bursts

Spectral lag, the time difference between the arrival of high-energy and low energy photons, is a common feature in Gamma-ray Bursts (GRBs). Norris et al. 2000 reported a correlation between the spectral lag and the isotropic peak luminosity of GRBs based on a limited sample. More recently, a number of authors have provided further support for this correlation using arbitrary energy bands of va...

On the Spectral Lags of the Short Gamma-Ray Bursts⋆

We present a detail analysis on the spectral lags of the short gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) and compare them with that of the long GRBs by using the CGRO/BATSE GRB Catalog. Our sample includes 308 short GRBs and 1008 long GRBs. The light curves of these GRBs are in 64 ms time bin and they have at least one long and intense pulse, which satisfies δT ≥ 0.512 seconds at c = 1σ and cmax ≥ 6σ, where δT i...
